Edgemere Estates, located at 10 Maple Grove Drive in Oakville, is a distinguished waterfront community that seamlessly blends historical significance with modern luxury. The site originally housed the Edgemere Estate, a grand residence built in the early 1900s by jeweller James Ryrie. Renowned for its elaborate Japanese gardens, the estate became a symbol of opulence and architectural beauty in Oakville. In 2008, the property was listed for $45 million CAD, making it one of Canada's most expensive homes at the time. It was eventually sold to developer Mark Hewitt for $35.9 million CAD, who envisioned transforming the historic estate into a luxury condominium development.
The redevelopment of Edgemere Estates was meticulously planned to honor the site's rich heritage while introducing contemporary design elements. The community comprises 30 condominium homes inspired by Muskoka cottage architecture, characterized by warm, clean, and modern design cues. The master plan includes two phases: the initial Edgemere Estates and the subsequent Gardens of Edgemere, both situated on the same picturesque parcel of land. A key aspect of the design was the preservation of existing structures, such as the original boathouses, and the allocation of a portion of the waterfront space for public use. This approach not only maintains the historical essence of the property but also offers residents a serene setting with green spaces along the water's edge.
The transformation of Edgemere Estates was spearheaded by Niche Development, a developer known for creating luxury communities that harmonize with their surroundings. The architectural design was crafted to reflect the elegance of the original estate while incorporating modern amenities and sustainable practices. The project also involved collaboration with heritage conservation experts to ensure that the historical elements of the property were preserved and integrated into the new development.
Situated in South East Oakville, Edgemere Estates offers residents unparalleled access to a variety of local amenities. The community is a short distance from downtown Oakville, where an array of boutique shops, gourmet restaurants, and cultural venues await exploration. The proximity to Lake Ontario provides opportunities for waterfront activities, while nearby parks and trails offer scenic spots for relaxation and recreation. Additionally, the area boasts reputable schools and convenient access to major highways, making it an ideal location for families and professionals alike.
